. The goal of the national antenatal sentinel HIV prevalence survey is to produce robust scientific evidence at national, provincial and district level in order to: Determine the HIV sero-prevalence among first time antenatal clinic attendees, seen as a particularly suitable “sentinel” group to represent most closely the HIV prevalence of the general adult sexually active part of the population and to provide baseline empirical data for national, provincial and district level estimates and extrapolation of HIV infections for future projections of the epidemic.

This report contains a snapshot of the use and impact of antibiotics in the environment. Surveillance within the water-plant-food interface remains limited in South Africa currently, although research is being done in various aspects e.g., identification and characterisation of multidrug-resistant potential foodborne pathogens from fresh produce and irrigation water. Increased capacity and integration into other structures will need to be investigated to improve the surveillance capacity in this area.

Summary evaluation of nutritional interventions for children from conception to age 5 2014

A diagnostic and implementation evaluation of government nutrition programmes was undertaken as part of the National Evaluation Plan for 2012/2013. The purpose of the evaluation was to assess the implementation of 18 nutrition interventions being delivered by the Departments of Health (DoH), Social Development (DSD), and Agriculture (DAFF or DOA) and to determine the enabling and inhibiting factors for implementation.

Conducted among about 10,500 people living with HIV in support groups across the country, the survey found that one-third of people living with HIV experienced stigma from their communities. An equal proportion of survey participants also reported experiencing tuberculosis-related stigma, according to the study commissioned by the South African National AIDS Council. Successfully Transitioning the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision Online Training Hub

This case study will document the successful transition of South Africa’s Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Online Training Hub (OTH) from a United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded programme to a National Department of Health (NDoH) platform. Under AIDSFree, 1,935 participants registered for the OTH training between July 2018 and March 2020. In that period, 892 participants completed the training, achieving a 46% completion rate.
