Documenting Good Practices in Primary Health Care

The booklet grew out of a Health Systems Trust project in KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies. Recognising the presence of noteworthy health service interventions in the province depicting good practice and their capacity to stimulate innovation and empower healthcare workers on the ground, a decision was made to capture a selection of these and analyse them for themes that appear to contribute to their success.

District Health Planning & Monitoring Framework

These guidelines recognize that District Planning, Budgeting, and Monitoring is a single objective and it therefore strives to streamline the process. The revised District Planning and monitoring system is an effort to improve both efficiency and effectiveness of the process, thereby promoting better service delivery of District Health Services and improve health outcomes in South Africa through a direct focus on planning and monitoring for implementation.

District Health Management Information System (DHMIS) Policy

Type
The DHMIS policy focuses on seven (7) high level priority areas, namely: Health Information Coordination and Leadership; Indicators; Data management, Data security; Data analysis and information products; Data dissemination and use and Health information system resources. These priority areas have sub-components, under which detailed policy provisions are made. It is of particular significance that this policy includes the ownership and management of the DHMIS.

District Health Barometer 2017/18

The 2018/19 District Health Barometer (DHB) provides an overview of the delivery of selected healthcare services in the public health sector across the provinces, districts and local municipalities/sub-districts of South Africa. The publication seeks to highlight inequities in health outcomes, health-resource allocation and health delivery, and to track the efficiency of health processes, across all provinces and districts.

Demand Landscaping for Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision in South Africa

This report outlines the landscaping exercise to understand what demand-creation activities for voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) have been undertaken in South Africa, what has been effective, and what new and innovative practices might exist. The results of this review will be used initially to inform the DOH's short-term rapid scale-up plan for VMMC and a revised demand creation strategy for South Africa. They may also be used by donors and implementing partners as they consider approaches to demand creation going forward.
