Wellness Management Policy for the Public Service

This policy serves as a broad guide for government Public Service organisations in responding to Wellness in the Public Service world of work. It specifically provides line departments with guidelines on how to implement Wellness Management programmes in the workplace. Practically, the policy seeks to strengthen and improve the efficiency of existing services, programmes and infrastructure and introduce additional interventions based on recent advances in knowledge.

The National Health Promotion Policy and Strategy 2015 - 2019

Type
The document outlines the quadruple burden of disease that South Africa is faced with, furthermore highlights the extent to which the health system struggles with four major health issues: non-communicable diseases (NCDs), communicable diseases (especially HIV and TB), maternal, neonatal and child morbidity and mortality, and deaths due to injury and violence. Health promotion has a significant role to play in reducing the burden of disease to the health system, by addressing the key social, behavioural and structural determinants of health.

To provide guidelines on the use of seclusion and restraint of mental health care users. Seclusion and restraint are regulated by the General Regulations of the Mental Health Care Act No 17 of 2002 to ensure that whenever they are used, appropriate procedures  are  followed  to  prevent  abuse,  injury  and  that  mental  health  care users are treated with dignity and their liberties are not infringed upon.

The purpose of the guide is to provide provincial heads of health on the requirements for listing of facilities to conduct 72-hour assessments and provide procedures to be followed when conducting 72-hour assessments on involuntary mental health care users and to provide clinical management guidelines on the assessment and treatment of mental health care users during 72-hour assessments

Policy for the Regulation of Quality Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) Supply in Healthcare

Type
This policy is developed by the National Department of Health (NDOH) Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Quality Assurance Committee in conjunction with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) and the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications of South Africa (NRCS). The intention of this policy is to ensure that all health workers in South Africa are afforded access to quality respiratory protective equipment, and in particular half face particulate respirators.

National Policy Incidents to Manage Patient Incidents in the Public Health Sector of South Africa

Type
The purpose of this policy is to provide direction to the public health sector of South Africa regarding the management of patient safety incidents, including the provision of appropriate feedback to patients, families/support persons and clinicians, and the sharing of lessons learned to prevent patient harm. This policy describes a national standardised system for managing patient safety incidents to ensure that health facilities, district offices, provincial offices and the national office respond effectively to patient safety incidents.

The norms and standards for environmental health will assist in setting a benchmark of quality against which delivery of environmental health services can be monitored. The main purpose of the norms and standards is to provide a national approach in ensuring standardization of functions and activities in the delivery of environmental health services and establish a level against which environmental health service delivery can be assessed and gaps identified.
