These guidelines are applicable to healthcare facilities (clinics, hospitals and care facilities for the aged, infirm or mental health care users). The aim of this guideline is to: Provide a practical step-by-step approach to Covid-19 outbreak investigation Contain facility-associated Covid-19 transmission and Identify and remediate gaps in infection prevention and control (IPC) practice to prevent future outbreaks. These guidelines should be read together with the South African National Infection Prevention and Control Strategic Framework and Manual which set minimum national   standards for the effective prevention and management of HAIs, and the COVID-19 Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines of the National Department of Health so that hazards associated with biological agents are minimized for patients, visitors and health care personnel in health facility.
