Health Research Priorities (Revised) For South Africa 2021-2024

The development of health research priorities is part of the mandate of the National Health Research Committee (NHRC). Research priorities will ensure that health research agendas and research resources focus on priority health problems. The NHRC in identifying health research priorities, took into consideration the followings: The burden of disease. The cost-effectiveness of interventions aimed at reducing the burden of disease. The availability of human and institutional resources for the implementation of an intervention at the level closest to the affected communities.

This tool provides an approach to engaging with communities to achieve the overall outcomes and has been designed to serve as a job-aid that should be carried by the CHWs to homes and community based programmes to assist in identifying and mitigating the health risks to individuals either from lifestyle and/or existing disease conditions.

Handbook for District Clinical Specialist Teams (DCST)

The handbook serves as a useful reference for provincial specialists; provincial DCST coordinators; Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Women's Health (MNCWH) managers at provincial and district level; and broader district management teams (DMTs). The handbook can also be used as a quick induction tool for new members of the DCST who join the team after the completion of the formal induction and training.

Hand Hygiene Behaviour Change Strategy 2016 - 2020

The overall goal of the Hand Hygiene Behaviour Change Strategy 2016-2020 is to prevent and reduce the prevalence of diarrhoea and other diseases related to poor water, sanitation and hygiene, particularly in children under 5 years, through the promotion of safe hand hygiene practices as a key and proven intervention. The strategy aligns to government’s National Development Plan (NDP) goals of the reduction of Infant and Child Mortality, and to prevention of disease and promotion of health in the country.

Guidelines on Post Mortem Testing for Natural Deaths

According to the SAMRC, excess deaths would comprise COVID-19 deaths that are confirmed, COVID-19 deaths that have not been confirmed, as well as other deaths that may arise from conditions that might normally have been diagnosed and treated had the public been willing and able to access healthcare services. In terms of the Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Act (Act No. 18 of 2010), all deaths need to be certified by a medical practitioner.
