Managing Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic in South Africa: A Clinical Guide for Health Workers and Managers

These guidelines provide guidance to healthcare workers and managers for the management and treatment of pregnant women and their newborn babies, and children in the context of COVID-19. They should be read in conjunction with the current Maternal and Neonatal Health Guidelines and the Guidelines for Clinical Management of Suspected or Confirmed COVID-19 disease. These guidelines are based on a combination of available evidence and expert opinion.  This is an evolving situation and these guidelines are a living document that may be updated if or when new information becomes available.

Management of Type 2 Diabetes in Adults at Primary Care Level

The implementation of this updated guideline, as one of the tools available to manage diabetes, will, with the cooperation of the patients and relevant health professionals, achieve the reduction of complications of diabetes and the reduction of premature mortality from diabetes. The guideline is an integral part of the Diabetes Implementation Strategy for South Africa, which was developed in response to the African Diabetes Declaration and Strategy.

Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis

The following policy guidelines are intended for use by health care professionals involved in the complex and difficult task of managing mono-and poly-resistant TB, MDR- and XDR-TB patients in South Africa. The guidelines focus on the clinical management, referral mechanisms and models of care. However, psychosocial support to ensure comprehensive management of the patients, strategies for infection prevention and control, and occupational health services for health care workers (HCWs) are covered.

Male Circumcision: Situation Analysis Toolkit

This toolkit focuses on facilitating  partnerships  and  team-building  among  stakeholders,  thus  encouraging  joint ownership and responsibility for the work in the future, encouraging stakeholder participation in the process, thus increasing the quality of the in-formation acquired and the acceptability of the results and reinforcing  in-country  capacities  for  situation  analysis  through  both  experience  with  the process and the provision of training materials.

Lopinavir/Ritonavir (LPV/r) (40mg/10mg Per Capsule) Oral Pellets - Job Aid and Fact Sheet

LPV/r oral pellets are a better tasting alternative to LPV/r syrup for the treatment of HIV in children who cannot tolerate the LPV/r syrup. The pellets are used in combination with other ARVs: They have an improved taste, are easy to swallow and don’t need to be stored in the fridge (they can be stored at room temperature). As this is a new product, healthcare workers must demonstrate how to administer oral pellets to caregivers (instructions are given below).
