The implementation of this updated guideline, as one of the tools available to manage diabetes, will, with the cooperation of the patients and relevant health professionals, achieve the reduction of complications of diabetes and the reduction of premature mortality from diabetes. The guideline is an integral part of the Diabetes Implementation Strategy for South Africa, which was developed in response to the African Diabetes Declaration and Strategy.
