WHO: Recommendations for prevention and treatment of maternal peripartum infections

The primary audience for this guideline is health professionals who are responsible for developing national and local health protocols and policies, as well as managers of maternal and child health programmes and policy-makers in all settings. The guideline will also be useful to those directly providing care to pregnant women, including obstetricians, midwives, nurses and general practitioners.

WHO: Recommendations for augmentation of labour

The goal of the present guideline is to consolidate the guidance for effective interventions that are needed to reduce the global burden of prolonged labour and its consequences. The primary target audience includes health professionals responsible for developing national and local health protocols and policies, as well as obstetricians, midwives, nurses, general medical practitioners, managers of maternal and child health programmes, and public health policy-makers in all settings.

WHO: Guidelines - Updates on HIV and Infant Feeding

The objective of this guideline is to improve the HIV-free survival of HIV-exposed infants by providing guidance on appropriate infant feeding practices and use of ARV drugs for mothers living with HIV and by updating WHO-related tools and training materials. The guideline is intended mainly for countries with high HIV prevalence and settings in which diarrhoea, pneumonia and undernutrition are common causes of infant and child mortality. However, it may also be relevant to settings with a low prevalence of HIV depending on the background rates and causes of infant and child mortality.

WHO recommendations on antenatal care for a positive pregnancy experience

The aim is for these recommendations to complement existing WHO guidelines on the management of specific pregnancy-related complications. The guidance is intended to reflect and respond to the complex nature of the issues surrounding the practice and delivery of ANC, and to prioritize person-centered health and well-being – not only the prevention of death and morbidity – in accordance with a human rights-based approach.

Updated Guidelines for the Provision of Oral Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to Persons at Substantial Risk of HIV Infection 2021

The HIV epidemic varies significantly across and within different geographies in South Africa. Even though the epidemic is generalised, it is over-represented in some populations, including sex workers (SW) and men who have sex with men (MSM). It is also concentrated in the populations with very high vulnerability to HIV, such as adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). This contextual understanding of the HIV epidemic is critical to develop and implement effective HIV interventions.

The South African National Welcome Back Campaign Strategy - 2021

There is an increasing trend in the disengagement from HIV care services which threatens the progress towards the 90-90-90 targets. The Welcome Back Campaign seeks to support re-engagement and retention of PLHIV who were diagnosed but never initiated on ART and those who were initiated on treatment and interrupted ART or missed ART appointments. The Welcome Back Campaign strategy compliments other NDOH policy documents that contribute to the country’s HIV response. The campaign has adopted a four- pronged approach.
