This module was created to be broad enough to be accessible to all healthcare workers (HCWs) who deal with human patients or animals (either companion animals or
livestock), at any level of care, including public and private sectors. 

More advanced training modules are being planned, aimed at healthcare workers who show an interest in becoming more actively involved in antimicrobial stewardship. 

The first National Guideline to manage Complaints, Compliments and Suggestions (CCS) was published in 2017 and came into effect on 1 April 2018 and was revised in 2021 with implementation on 1 April 2022. The training module covers the content of the revised CCS guideline and outlines the procedure to follow to effectively manage CCS at different levels in the health system.

The National Patient Safety Incidents (PSI) reporting and learning guideline was published in 2017 and came into effect on 1 April 2018 and was revised in 2021 with implementation on 1 April 2022. The training module covers the content of the National PSI reporting and learning guideline and outlines the procedure to follow to manage PSIs and learn from errors to prevent reoccurrence.

The ACC Programme for healthcare professionals was designed to strengthen the South African Government’s ability in addressing challenges of sustainable clinical capacity within the National Department of Health in the context of a rapidly maturing HIV and TB epidemic. The curriculum will focus on providing healthcare professionals with the core knowledge and skills required to diagnose and manage unstable HIV patients with commonly observed opportunistic infections and other co-morbidities, in addition to those failing antiretroviral treatment (ART). 

This course covers the theoretical overview of the circumcision programme, which is essentially the backbone around which the surgical intervention is focused. The course includes a detailed review of HIV prevention in Africa, the anatomy and physiology required to perform a safe surgical circumcision and a review of the procedure using the dorsal slit method, a  World Health Organization (WHO) approved circumcision method.

The Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) training package provides a comprehensive framework for the training of health care providers on SRHR in South Africa.

This training package a demonstration of the Department of Health’s commitment to providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services with a rights-based approach, in order to achieve health for all.
