National HIV Self Screening Guidelines - 2018

The WHO defines HIV self testing (referred to self-screening in this document) as a voluntary process in which a person collects his or her own specimen (oral fluid or blood) and then performs a screening test and interprets the result, often in a private setting, either alone or with someone he or she trusts. It should be offered as an additional approach to existing HTS, and not replace it. The overall goal of HIV self-screening is to improve HIV testing among the historically HIV under-tested, test-averse and hard to reach groups, such as men, adolescent girls and young women (AGYW).

National Guidelines on the Treatment of Tuberculosis Infection

This guideline has been revised based on the guidance provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), local evidence and experience with TB preventive treatment (TPT) implementation. The purpose is to guide implementation, the management of patients started on TPT and the monitoring and evaluation requirements. It is intended for clinicians, pharmacists and healthcare managers in the public and private sector.

National Guidelines on Epidemic Preparedness and Response

Experience has shown that where epidemic preparedness plans have been formulated and adequately implemented, not only were outbreaks detected early, but also the response has been rapid and well targeted, resulting in effective and rapid control. These guidelines therefore seek to strengthen national, provinces, districts and facilities in their mission to prevent, manage, and control outbreaks/epidemics promptly.

National Guidelines on Contact Tracing for COVID-19

Contact tracing for COVID-19 requires identifying persons who may have been exposed to COVID-19 and following up on them daily for 14 days from the last point of exposure. Contact tracing is one of the critical tools available to effectively break chains of transmission and control COVID-19 outbreaks. This guideline has been prepared to guide the implementation and management of contact tracing in South Africa for managing Covid-19 outbreaks. The guideline also provides direction regarding the monitoring and evaluation of the contact tracing process.

National Guidelines for the Treatment of Malaria - 2019

These guidelines are based on the 3rd Edition of the WHO Guidelines (Published 2015) World Health Organization’s Guidelines for the treatment of malaria. Additional literature surveys have been undertaken. Factors that were considered in the choice of therapeutic options included effectiveness, safety, and impact on malaria transmission and on the emergence and spread of antimalarial drug resistance. On-going surveillance is critical given the spread of artemisinin resistance in Southeast Asia, although not yet confirmed anywhere in Africa.
