Differentiated Models of Care (DMoC) capturing on Tier.Net & National Indicator Data Set (NIDS) reporting

Objectives: 

South Africa is committed to attaining the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets to control the HIV epidemic by providing quality healthcare services using highly effective antiretroviral treatment (ART).
To support the achievement of this goal, the ART clinical guidelines have been updated to include Differentiated Models of Care (DMoC) .
Aim: The goal of this webinar series is to increase awareness regarding capturing of DMoC in Tier.NET and reporting DMOC in NIDS 2023.

Growth Monitoring and Nutrition in Children - 2023

This course provides users with information required to appropriately assess and manage children’s growth and nutrition. Growth monitoring is key to the early identification of growth faltering, which can prompt the introduction of interventions to prevent or limit the consequences of this.  

Learning objectives: 

  1. Understand the importance of growth monitoring in children.
  2. Learn the correct techniques to perform anthropometric measurements in children.
  3. Plot measurements on growth charts and interpret the findings.
  4. Provide appropriate management, including counselling, for children with and without growth faltering.

The course provides a theoretical basis for the evaluation and management of children for growth problems. It incorporates multimedia to convey appropriate techniques for skills and regular formative assessments to reinforce important points and aid knowledge retention. 

The course consists of four modules:

  1. An introduction to children’s growth and the need for growth monitoring
  2. Assessing children’s physical growth through anthropometry
  3. Understanding and using growth charts
  4. Responding in a primary care setting to children who are not growing well.

You must complete all four modules as well as the course evaluation to get a certificate of completion.

Growth Monitoring and Nutrition in Children - 2023

Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) - 2023

The Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) is a strategy implemented in many low- and middle-income countries to improve the quality of care offered to sick children under 5, thereby improving the under-5 mortality rates in these countries. South Africa adopted the IMCI strategy in 1998. It has been adapted for the South African population and is widely used in primary health care settings across the country.

This course serves to optimise and standardise IMCI training for all health workers involved in the management of sick children.

Learning objectives:

  1. Describe the three components of the IMCI strategy.
  2. Understand and apply the principles that IMCI uses to provide healthcare to sick children.
  3. Improve confidence and accuracy of the assessment and management of common childhood illnesses in primary care settings.
  4. Learn to counsel caregivers on identifying signs of severe illness and on home management of their child’s illness.
  5. Understand the elements of promotive care that are integrated into the IMCI consultation.

This training is designed for pre-service (undergraduate) and in-service training of nursing and medical students, nurses, doctors as well as therapists and pharmacists with an interest in the management of sick children.

This course can be used as a stand-alone, providing theoretical basis and video application of the knowledge and skills required to provide appropriate health care to sick children under 5. It should ideally be complemented by practical IMCI training, facilitated by an in-person trainer.

  1. The course comprises of 18 self-paced modules. 
  2. This course can be completed in 3 days (18-24 hours) or in 10 weeks if 2 modules are completed per week.
  3. Participants must complete all 18 modules, the final assessment, and the course evaluation. To qualify for a certificate of completion, you must:
  • complete all 18 self-study modules.
  • Achieve a mark of 70% or higher in the final assessment (3 attempts at final assessment will be allowed) to receive a 30 CPD certificate of achievement. 
  • complete the course evaluation.

A certificate of attendance will be issued to participants who don't meet the pass rate of 70%.

Introduction of BPaL-L, a 6-month RR-TB regimen.

Objectives: 

South Africa has been a global leader in introducing innovation to the field of Rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) and the work done in the country has had a significant impact on global policy. One of these innovations are the implementation of clinical access programmes for Bedaquiline, followed by Delamanid and BPaL.

This webinar will discuss the implementation and roll-out of this new six-month BPaL-L RR-TB regimen.
