Growth Monitoring and Nutrition in Children - 2023
This course provides users with information required to appropriately assess and manage children’s growth and nutrition. Growth monitoring is key to the early identification of growth faltering, which can prompt the introduction of interventions to prevent or limit the consequences of this.
Learning objectives:
- Understand the importance of growth monitoring in children.
- Learn the correct techniques to perform anthropometric measurements in children.
- Plot measurements on growth charts and interpret the findings.
- Provide appropriate management, including counselling, for children with and without growth faltering.

Course content
The course provides a theoretical basis for the evaluation and management of children for growth problems. It incorporates multimedia to convey appropriate techniques for skills and regular formative assessments to reinforce important points and aid knowledge retention.
The course consists of four modules:
- An introduction to children’s growth and the need for growth monitoring
- Assessing children’s physical growth through anthropometry
- Understanding and using growth charts
- Responding in a primary care setting to children who are not growing well.
You must complete all four modules as well as the course evaluation to get a certificate of completion.
