Course content
This course is designed for nurses but it will be valuable to all healthcare workers. It focuses on safely treating all victim-survivors of sexual offences during the initial consultation.
This is NOT a competency course and completing it, will not alter your scope of practice or prescriber level.
This course contains 4 content chapters in the form of video presentations and 1 quiz. The video presentations are in a conversational style with built in activities to pause and digest if you are on your own, or to discuss if you are part of a group.
By the end of this course you will:
- Understand the trauma response and the importance of self-care and communication skills, when managing victim-survivors.
- Know how to apply the step-by-step emergency management of victim-survivors of a sexual offence. This includes the medical management, referral and mandatory reporting processes, making use of Adult Primary Care (APC).
- Identify health system strengthening opportunities and available community resources.
- Know how to identify self-care needs and ask for help.
Course Overview:
- This course contains 4 content chapters in the form of video presentations.
- It will take you approximately 4-6 hours to complete. You can complete it over as many sittings as needed.
- This online course is CPD accredited for 2 clinical and 1 ethics CEU's- level 1. This will be submitted to HPCSA after completion of the course.
- There is a final quiz that requires you get at least 70% before getting the certificate. It is open book.
- You can stop at any time and come back and continue where you left off. We advise that you complete a video before logging off.
- You need to complete this course using your own personal account.
Only the account holder will receive certificate of completion and CPD points.
